"Conserving Biodiversity with Native Plants"

The conversation about healthy ecosystems and the importance of preserving the diversity of species continues from various perspectives. The United Nations has declared 2010 to be the International Year of Biodiversity.

Speakers:

Carole Brown (morning keynote) - Conservation Biologist with 20 years experience as a consultant designing, installing, and maintaining wildlife gardens, will speak about "Conservation Gardening and Sustainable Landcaping"

Carolyn Summers (afternoon keynote) - Adjunct professor at Westchester Community College New York, and Technical Assistant at The Native Plant Center (affiliated with Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center), will speak about designing with natives. Her first book "Designing Gardens with Flora of the American East" was released this past April.

September 18-19 - Hoosier Outdoor Experience

Fort Harrison State Park, Indianapolis - Free Admission and Free Parking!

Over 100 FREE activities all over Ft. Harrison!  The Hoosier Outdoor Experience is a grassroots-based, hands-on, interactive learning event that teaches outdoor skills and conservation practices to children, families and individuals that would like to try new outdoor recreation activities.

Volunteer work days - 3rd Saturday of every month - EcoLab, Marian University, Indianapolis.

The Marian University EcoLab has volunteer work days the 3rd Saturday of every month from spring through fall. Work days begin at 9 a.m. and continue until noon. September 18 - Fourth Annual Indiana Bat Festival www.indstate.edu/biology/centers/batfestival.htm

Indiana State University and the Center for North American Bat Research and Conservation will once again be hosting the Indiana Bat Festival. This year's festival will feature live bat and bird programs, talks by leading bat experts, conservation exhibits, inflatable cave for exploration, activities for children, book authors, bat house information, bat merchandise, an evening barbecue, and bat science night.
